NIRVANA
Nirvana is the name of a band from the City of Aberdeen, Washington, United States, then finally they get success in Seattle City, United States, which is famous for the flow of grunge music, or also known as Seattle Sound. The band has many followers or loyal fans in Indonesia, especially in the underground music community.
Nirvana began to be popular, and known to the world since the release of their album, Nevermind, with the singles of Smells Like Teen Spirit, the single made them the Best Alternative / Rock Band trophy and occupied the first chart on Billboard America. Nirvana consists of Krist Novoselic, Kurt Cobain, and Dave Grohl. The band broke up after Kurt Cobain committed suicide from an overdose after sucking cocaine in his residence in 1994.
The group was formed in Washington, USA, in 1987. All Nirvana songs were released by vocalists Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic who filled bass Dave Grohl, the group released their first album in 1989 under an indie label.
In 1991, Nirvana signed a contract with a major label DGC and released their second album NEVERMIND. DGC estimates it can sell the album at least 250 thousand copies only. But the opposite happened. The success of Smells Like Teen Spirit boosted sales to 400 thousand copies in just one week.
Trying to repeat the success of the first album, the second album titled IN UTERO was released 2 years later. Unfortunately the prestige of this 2nd album is not as brilliant as the first.
April 8, 1994 is the end of Nirvana's history when the motor Kurt Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle Washington. Some of their compilation albums are still released some years later. It is estimated that Nirvana has sold at least 50 million copies of their albums worldwide.
