History of The Beatles

Establishment and early years (1957-1962)

Still 16 years old, singer and guitarist John Lennon formed a skiffle band called The Quarrymen with Liverpool schoolmates in March 1957. Paul McCartney was fifteen years old when they met in July of that year. George Harrison joined as the lead guitarist of February the following year after McCartney invited to watch. In 1960, Lennon's school friends came out and he entered the Liverpool College of Art. The three men play rock and roll every time they get a drummer. Joining the bass in January, Lennon's classmate Stuart Sutcliffe suggested changing the group name to The Beetles as a form of admiration for Buddy Holly and The Crickets, then changing again to The Beatals in the first months of the year. After experimenting with other names like Johnny and the Moondogs, Long John and The Beetles and The Silver Beatles, the group eventually became The Beatles in August. The lack of drummers who remain a problem when their unofficial manager, Allan Williams set up a residence for a gig in Hamburg, Germany. Before August ended, they auditioned and found Pete Best, and left for Hamburg four days later, signing a contract to play music with a show organizer named Bruno Koschmider for 48 nights. The best-selling Beatles show in Hamburg where they played music for hours and caused the streets to jam with crowds coming in and out watching their shows.
Harrison, who was 17 years old in August 1960, lied to a German officer about his age to be able to live in Hamburg. Initially they were placed in Indra Club, Koschmider then move them to Kaiserkeller in October after Indra closed because it is considered noisy. When the Beatles broke the contract with a gig at the racist Top Ten Club, Koschmider reported underage Harrison to the authorities and was deported in November. McCartney and Best were also arrested for arson cases in their room in mid-December, after which they were also deported. Lennon returned to Liverpool mid-December while Sutcliffe remained in Hamburg for several months. He dated German girl Astrid Kirchherr who first took professional Beatles photos and cut Sutcliffe's hair in the popular style of the day, exi (existentialist). Sutcliffe's hairstyles will inspire other members of the Beatles.
In the following years, the group returned to Hamburg. They experiment with Preludin deliberately to keep the power to be strong gig all night. Sutcliffe decided to leave early in 1961 and and continue his studies in Germany, so McCartney took over the bass. German producer Berta Kaempfert contracted a four-man Beatles for Tony Sheridan's back band in several recordings. Credited to Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers, My Bonnie's single was recorded in June and released a few months later, ranking 32th on the Musikmarkt charts. Beatles became better known when heading back to Liverpool. While still playing at The Cavern Club, they meet Brian Epstein, owner of a local recording studio and a music columnist. The Beatles appointed Epstein as manager in January 1962 and Kaempfert agreed to release them from a German recording contract. After an audition they were denied Decca Records with the comment "Outdated guitar group, Mr. Epstein" ("Guitar groups are on the way out, Mr. Epstein"), George Martin submitted the group to the Parlophone label in EMI. In April they returned to Hamburg and were shocked by news of Sutcliffe's death due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
The group was briefed by George Martin at London's EMI Abbey Road Studio for the first time in 1962. Martin complained about how to play Best drumming to Epstein and suggested that the Beatles wear drummer sessions in the studio. Finally, Best was replaced by Ringo Starr who just came out of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. In fact, Starr has been playing for the Beatles replacing Best who is often absent. Martin still hired Andy White as a session drummer for just one session. White contributed in the singles Love Me Do and P.S I Love You. Released in October, Love Me Do entered the top 20 charts in the UK and was at number 17. After finishing the recording for the second single titled Please Please Me in November, they began appearing on television first in the People and Place news program.
The group had a last-minute gig in Hamburg in December 1962. Now that it has become a pattern, all four members contribute to vocals, though only Starr is rarely the main vocal because of limited reach. Lennon and McCartney are already working together to write the lyrics, while Harrison also sings little though. Epstein menci
